About
Spaces and Buildings
The procedures of adding buildings and spaces are very similar as you
see in this help file:
Adding Buildings
First make sure you are in
Edit Mode
and on the
Site Plan
to add buildings. To add a building go to the Add
Object menu is on the right
side of Onuma.
The Add Object Menu
- Add
autoBIM: adds an autoBIM
building (How to Here)
- Duplicate
Building: will duplicate a
building in your scheme:
- A pop-up window will
appear where you select the building you want to duplicate and give the
new building a name.
- Select Empty
Buildings from the pull
down to choose from the basic shapes in the Add
Object(s) Panel, enter the
number of Floor(s)
and then click on that Building Icon. Additionally you may select Custom
Shape to draw your own
shape, where:
- Each mouse click adds a
corner
- Holding down the Shift
key locks the line to orthogonal
- Finish a building by
clicking on your first point
- Select Add
Shared Building from the
pull down to add a building from a shared scheme within the Studio:
- Next you will select
the Project
and Scheme
where the shared Building
is located that you want to add.
- After selected the
building you wish to add; a pop-up will appear with the following
options:

- Add
Building: This creates a
fully editable copy of the shared building to your scheme.
- Link
Building: This option is
for teamwork. A linked building will allow you to position it on a site
and watch progress while your other team member edits the floor plan
and building shape.
- Select your option and
click Add
to proceed or Cancel
to cancel.

Add / Delete Floors
First make sure you are in
Edit Mode
and on the
Floor Plan
of the building you want to add or delete Floors. The Add/Delete
Floor button is on the left
side of Onuma.
The Add / Delete Floor Button
- To Add
a floor to your building, be on the Add
Floor tab and select where
the floor will be located (above or below a certain floor) and if you
would like to include (copy) the spaces from the current floor to your
new floor.
Please note that the new
floor will be the same shape and dimensions as the floor you are
currently on
- To Delete
a floor to your building, be on the Delete
Floor tab and select the
floor you want to delete.
Please note that deleting
a floor will save the current floor plan and clear the undo stack.

Adding Spaces
First make sure you are in
Edit Mode
and on the
Floor Plan
of the floor you want to add Spaces. To Add
Spaces go to the Add
Object(s) panel on the
right side of Onuma.
Add Object(s) Panel on Floor
Plan
- Add
Empty Space(s): click to
add empty space(s) to the current floor.
- A pop-up window will
appear where you need to enter the Space Name and its Area or Width
& Length
- Click Add
when you are finished
- Or
Select Category:
- Local
Templates: Select to add a
space from your Local Templates. More on Local Templates HERE.
- Global
Templates: Select to add a
space from Onuma, Inc. created templates.
NOTE: Global Templates contains Basic Shapes which features Custom
Shape to draw your own
shape, where:
- Each mouse click
adds a corner
- Holding down the
Shift key locks the line to orthogonal
- Finish a space by
clicking on your first point
- Add
Shared Spaces select to add
a Space from a shared scheme within the Studio:
- First, select the Project,
Scheme,
Building,
and Floor
where the shared Spaces
are located that you want to add.
- Select if you want
Add Spaces (Copy) or Link Spaces
- Click Add
- Move
Space(s): (See Below)

About Linked Spaces
Allows you to link to a space to your plan and increases your
productivity through teamwork. When you link a space to your floor plan
another user on your team can be working on that space plan in another
scheme simultaneously!
- To link a space, on your
floor plan select add shared space from the Add Object Panel
- Select the space(s) you
want to link
- Select the Link Space(s)
option at the bottom
- Click Add
- To unlink, enter the space
and click the unlink icon in the red bar across the top of the screen

Importing Buildings and Spaces
Using the MS Excel Import Template (Located on the "Studios" page) the
user can import a new building or add spaces to an existing building in
Onuma.
The procedures for both
processes are very similar.
- Make sure that you have
saved the excel file in XLS
or CSV
format.
- Starting at either the site
level to import a building; or the building level to import spaces go
to Import / Export
bar at the bottom right.
- Select Import.
- Select Excel XLS as your Import
Format for a saved XLS
file, OR select CSV for a saved CSV file and browse for your file.
Note: When using excel to
create a new building select the import option that also has (creates
new building) next to it.
- Your file will upload and
display the list of spaces you are adding to either your new or
existing building, hit Proceed
to continue, or Back
if you change your mind.
- Onuma will then create the
building/spaces in the scheme, hit Return
to the Site, or Back
to Importer to upload more
buildings/spaces.

Moving Spaces
Once Spaces have been added to a building, they can also be moved from
floor to floor or to other buildings.
To move spaces from floor to
floor or from building to building there are two ways:
Method
1
- While in Edit
Mode, select the building
and floor that will receive the moving spaces
- Next, select the Move
Spaces from the pull down
menu on the Add Object(s)
panel
- Then select the building
and the floor with the space you want to move to your current floor
- Check the box to select the
spaces which will be moved
- Click Move
- A message will pop-up
asking you if you are sure you want to move the selected space(s)
click:
- OK
to continue and move the spaces
- Cancel
to cancel
Method
2
- Export an Excel file from
the Site Plan,
this will create a list of spaces and include building IDs
- If you select the spaces
you want to move to another building, you can then change the building
ID and/or floor number
By changing the numbers
highlighted in green to the number highlighted in red, the two office
spaces will be move to the other building.
- Save the Excel file
- Click the import button on
the lower right
- Select Excel
XLS Update Spaces Only
NOTE: You must be on the
Site Plan to do this!

Placing Building and Spaces using Drag
After adding building and spaces you will want to arrange them as
needed, to do so turn on Drag
by clicking .

Q. How do you move a space out of 1 building and into a different building for phasing purposes? [KM - 1/7/10]
A. To move spaces from floor to floor or from building to building there are two ways. One is to go to the floor you want to move the spaces to, then click on the "Move Spaces" button on the left side under the spaces tab. ( you must be in edit mode to move spaces ). The 2nd way is to export an Excel file from the Site level. This will create a list of spaces and include building IDs. If you select the spaces you want to move to another building, you can then change the building ID and floor number. Save the Excel file and then click the import button on the lower right, select "Excel XLS Update Spaces Only" ( You must be on the site level to do this ). [KO - 1/7/10]
