TEAM B --- DESIGN ATLANTIC LTD ---

We will be focusing on safety and security issues throughout the planning area, in lieu of selecting one individual site.

Our focus will be on evaluating current response capabilities and then on projecting future needs to support the development as things develop in the Storm.

In simple terms, we will look at the current emergency services response system and project the changes that will be needed to serve the future condition.

As part of this effort, we will be identifying station locations (fire/ems/police). We will then apply prototype facilities to these locations as required to support the future state and use these models to extract financial and other management planning data. Prototypes will be available for further analysis and development by other teams.

As part of this effort, we will also be creating and teaching team members some of the successful OPS/GE workflows that we have created to maximize team member's abilities to contribute to the final concepts.

We invite all players that wish to work in emergency services, response enhanced design, CPTED and other public safety areas to join the team and help to maximize our value to the community while demonstrating the power of this process.

We particularly need the help of fire service and law enforcement professionals with planning responsibilities in their organizations. Even if you have never touched CAD, cannot draw your way out of a paper bag, or think that this could never happen in such a short time frame, we invite you to participate. This is a real-world exercise and the key is direct, professional knowledge. Your input is critical to reaching real solutions and showing real tools to solve community problems.

btw. for those that don't know us, we were successful in a similar role in the LAX and New Orleans BIMstorms. Alexandria is an opportunity to leverage the work in those cities to do even more.

btw. the same issues are true for the Captitol Alliance Tshwane project.

However, in the Tshwane project, there will be more of a transportation apparatus/personnel movement focus. In this project the team will focus on questions such as, "how do I get a ladder truck to location X when there are no traditional streets?", and, "where (and how) do I site apparatus to create a transparent emergency services system?"

We are a construction company and have 2 people participating - 1 architect, using conceptual BIM tool and 1 LEED/green building expert. This is our first BIMStorm and we would like to join a team with planning expertise that can use our expertise. Please let me know. Bernice Cutler - bcutler@coxschepp.com

We are a church organization and would like to post a program that could be used in OPS Bimstorm Alexandria. We are new to OPS and BIM and would like to see as an owner what benefit this could bring. How would I post this into the storm? We have the program worked up in the OPS excel spreadsheet.

You can submit projects that are not defined in the Scnerios. Create your own scenario and select a site and submit project and scheme into the BIMStorm.

LDS Church PFD would like to form a team and just play with a variety of projects and sites. We've posted a potential project and have played with it some.

Hi Tom,
Yes, your "Scheme: (S65_268) Church LDS" looks great.
If you would like, I can do a 20-30 minutes GoTo Meeting with your team - perhaps we can collaborate in realtime.

Send me an email if you like and I'll send the goto mtg info

Yong,

Can we get together about 4pm Mountain? It might only be me, but a view of how to collaborate would be good. I will be working with some of the team from 2 to 4. I will be reviewing BIM storm and OPS with several tomorrow.

BIMstorm™ Survey Invitation

Greetings,

The BIMstorm™ for Alexandria’s Federal Friendly Zone was yet another historic achievement of innovative and collaborative design possibilities.

With the Capitals Alliance BIMstorm™ for South Africa starting on Monday, it is clear that design advancements will keep marching forward at a rapid pace.

The BIM Education Co-op™ is pleased to announce that the BIMstorm™ participants are able to complete a sophisticated, online survey that will enhance organizational learning of the group.

Sofi Executive Systems is providing its sophisticated, online survey for evaluating BIMstorm™ participation with advanced sociological relational database research methods based on leading edge work developed at Harvard and MIT.

Just as BIM leverages visual relational databases to greatly increase building productivity, the Sofi Executive System leverages sociological relational databases to greatly increase sociological understanding.

By using a consistent, online survey format with established relationships between question categories, the cumulative results of any survey group are given greatly enhanced value. While a traditional survey might require 1,000 responses to determine valid sociological analysis, Sofi allows the responses from just five (5) like-minded people to provide meaningful research results.

Two Sofi surveys will be made available. The first survey is for the City of Alexandria to evaluate it’s approach to using advanced technology to meet the needs of it’s citizens and business residents.

The second survey is to allow the BIMstorm™ team to understand how it can accelerate learning in what we hope will be many BIMstorm™ in the coming years.

Sofi surveys provide a combination of easy-to-click answers and opportunities to provide written responses. There are 14 categories with up to 6 questions. If you only provide “click through” responses you can complete the survey in less than 10 minutes. If you provide written comments and suggestions, you may spend 20 minutes or more with survey if you desire.

While some of the questions may not relate to you and some may seem redundant, the relational database underpinning the system gives added value to every response. So don’t skip over seemingly simple or redundant questions.

Just as a BIMstorm™ is working out better ways to design, we are pleased to be working out new ways to capture knowledge from industry experts and using that knowledge to quickly enhance advanced design processes.

Results of surveys completed by Sunday, September 14th will be immediately made available to BIMstorm™ organizers to enhance the next event starting on September 15th. Results from surveys completed later will benefit future BIMstorms™.

If you are interested in participating in either survey please send your email address to Amanda Cousins, Online Survey Manager for Sofi Executive Systems - amanda@asksofi.com - an invitation to the survey website will then be sent to you.

Thank you for you consideration,

Mike
