When i click the pull down menu next to "Limit to the following group:", i only get "public" and no other team options. I am logged in and i've checked..."the Share Scheme/Site with other users of this OPS Studio™"

Wondering if Dubai is at fault. ;)

24 Hour End - Submit Schemes
Posted by: Kimon (IP Logged)
Date: February 01, 2008 08:42AM

The 24 Hour portion of the BIMstorm has ended.

We are not closing the BIMstorm, just pausing and reflecting on where we are.

Today at 1PM PST we will have a one hour overview:

BIMStorm LAX - One Hour Overview of the Last 24 Hours
* February 1, 2008 - 4 pm Eastern, 1 pm Pacific
* Join here for Webinar https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/431782935

Teams: Please share your projects in with the appropriate team sharing settings. Please also submit images, sketches, 3d renderings, and any other diagrams and "Attach" them to your projects in OPS. We are going through the projects right now and selecting images to be used on the AIA BIM Awards submittal.

The BIMStorm was not a competition but a Collaborative Event, to demonstrate how open standards based exchanges, can support massive real time collaboration, and scenario planning. The end result is not a "finished" product, it is an engine that can continue to evolve. Panelists will be reviewing the projects throughout the month of Feb. and we invite continued input from the teams on their projects.

Thanks for Participating

Kimon

Webcams are on...

LIVE - Webcams

* Webcam on Onuma Office Pasaden - Team E - Live
http://onuma.com/webcam/onumacam.html
* Webcam of Thomas Dalbert, Team E - Temporary "Office" for Jan. and Feb. in Switzerland
http://www.friiischtailer.ch/webcam-dorf.html

Any other teams that have photos of their team or webcams please post them.

It would also be nice if someone could start a google map where we can put push pins where the physical location of teams were that worked on the BIMstorm.

If each team can submit a summary of
- what they worked
- How many people invovled and who they were
- What they focused on
- What tools were used
- What other teams or analysts they interacted with that was planned
- What other teams and analysts they interacted with and was not planned, for example Team P received a bid for an Operating Room for their medical center.
- What learned
- Challenges
- Any other thoughts....

Please post in the forum as a text message.

CADVisual submitted this from the Netherlands:

Team V
Jeffrey Ouellette - Nemetschek North America, Columbia, MD
Stan Rostas - Shook Kelley, Inc., Charlotte, NC
Robert Anderson - Nemetschek North America, Columbia, MD

Team V's Site:
Team V Site.jpg

Team V's mission/strategy was two-fold;

First, to boost the existing functionality of the site with a higher density of the same uses already established, encouraging a local live/work/play strategy making jobs, housing and leisure activities easily accessible to each other.

Secondly, to compare VectorWorks Architect's tools with the ideals set forth by Onuma, Inc. and the potential of the OPS for our own users.

Lessons learned and Challenges:

Geometry, any geometry, in any editing system, takes time... usually more than you initially think and plan for.

No communication, verbal or digital is perfect, right from the start. You have to negotiate with people, software and hardware in order to get the results you want, but may not expect.

Learning how to use the all tools in the bag is important. Otherwise all you have is a very heavy, expensive paperweight.

<<- How many people invovled and who they were>>

Four at varying times of the day: Mike Panesis, Jon Miller, Luca Romani, Mike Towers

<<- What they focused on>>

Whitestone attached O&M forecasts for the following sites:

US Coast Guard LAX HQ (S39_612) - did orginal plan, we'll post something for therevision today)
US Army Corps HQ (S39_471)
Elementary School (S39_622)
High School (S39_546)
Office Tower (S39_619)
Courthouse (S39_617)
Hospital (S39_289)
YMCA (S39_289)
Elementary School (S39_747)

<<- What tools were used>>

We used Whitestone's MARS Facility Cost Forecast System. Reports were printed to PDF format and uploaded to OPS.

<<- What other teams or analysts they interacted with that was planned>>

None

<<- What other teams and analysts they interacted with and was not planned, for example Team P received a bid for an Operating Room for their medical center.>>

Green roofs were a bigger topic than expected.

<<- What learned>>

You can see the benefits of BIM starting to materialize, but the technology seems to be a work in progress.

<<- Challenges >>

Lots to communicate in a short period of time. Also coordination all of those projects at once.

This was a great experience. Thanks very much for inviting us!

Just when you thought the BIMStorm is over...it is just the beginning.

You can now import IFC files to SketchUP and continue your design there.

Export IFC from OPS or
go to WFS
http://www.onuma.com/products/WfsCatalog.php

select a project download IFC and then start this up to work in SketchUP:

We will be doing a how to use IFC and SketchUP session within the next week for those that are intersted.

Inverted Pyramid of All Schemes
Posted by: Kimon (IP Logged)

New scheme posted that takes all of the submitted schemes, and creates a "tiled" project with one block per total area of each building and floats them above LA at 1000 feet. Another version of that scheme takes the same program and stacks it vertially one, building per "floor" into an inverted pyramid floating 1000 feet on top of downtown Los Angeles. The smallest building was the 450 square foot Corazon home and the largest is over a million square feet.

These two schemes are also accessible in Google Earth format and IFC format using the BIM Reports page, Team E

To all BIMStorm Teams:

The Panel will be meeting on Feb. 15, to review the entire process and submitted schemes. The BIMStorm LAX will also be featured in the Spring issue of the Journal of BIM, published by the National Institute of Building Sciences:

http://buildingsmartalliance.org/pdfs/jbim_fall07.pdf

There is a particular interest from the Panel and and others in:

1. Process and lessons learned.
2. What did your team do in the BIMStorm, what were your roles, input and output. Names of team members and structure.
3. Who did you collaborate with that was planned, and not planned.
4. Some screen shots of your process and results. There was so much material generated and each team had a different focus. We would like to see some screen shots in a powerpoint from each team. It could be just one powerpoint with images, or a few that would show the process.
5. How experienced were the participants in BIM and other tools?
6. Were you aware of open standards based collaboration and the benefits of it?
7. What difficulties did you have?
8. How was communication between team members and outside of the team handled?
Would you do this again?
10. Any other thoughts.
